One of my favorite oddball records, one which defies description!!! Among the facts gleaned from the liner notes: Vincent Fiorino was a tuba player in Paul Whiteman's band. He'd written several hits including Dinah Shore's 'Blue Canary' and Theresa Brewer's 'Skinny Minnie' as well as Red Foley's 'Red Canary' (which is covered on this lp) It seems that at some point in his career, Vince opened a dinner club in Florida, where this lp was recorded live and was apparently sold. The liner notes also tout the vocal talents of "Tina" 'A discovery of Fiorino who displays a combination of fine talent and vocal beauty'(?!) Vince's tuba gymnastics are impressive even when largely obscured by artificial reverb added. | |
